Jethro Tull - To Cry You a Song

Jethro Tull - To Cry You a Song

From their 1970 album Benefit. Ian Anderson - Flute, Vocals Martin Barre - Guitar Glenn Cornick ( RIP 1947 - 2014) - Bass Clive Bunker - Drums Lyrics: Flying so high, trying to remember how many cigarettes did I bring along? When I get down I'll jump in a taxi cab driving through London town to cry you a song. It's been a long time -- still shaking my wings. Well, I'm a glad bird I got changes to ring. Closing my dream inside its paper-bag. Thought I saw angels but I could have been wrong. Search in my case, and find what they're looking for Waving me through to cry you a song. It's been a long time -- still shaking my wings. Well I'm a glad bird I got changes to ring. Lights in the street, peeping through curtains drawn. Rattling of safety chain taking too long. The smile in your eyes was never so sweet before -- Came down from the skies to cry you a song.

This song should be the ending theme to an anime. Like how Jojo's Bizarre Adventure uses Roundabout even though Jojo's sucks.

If asked what my favorite Tull song is, it's either this or Nothing is easy, or ....?

the thing I really like about Tull is their guitar riffs. They can stick in my head all day/week

A great song! The theme is lifted from J.S. Bach, of course. Certainly one of my faves from Tull. They were playing this as an encore in 1970 before vacating the stage for Rod Stewart at the Forum in L.A. My buds and I, not being into Stewart at all, split and gave our ticket stubs to some girls - Rod Stewart fans - who couldn't get in. I still can't believe that Tull opened for Stewart!

Holy Crap! Haven't heard this entire album forever. Sounds as good at 63 as it did at 17. Maybe better.

I never saw Jethro Tull in concert, but I've always heard that before launching into one particular song, Ian Anderson would say that if 'Henry VIII had a rock band, it might sound like this'. Is "To Cry You a Song" that song?

It might have been Benefit's closing song, Sossity You're a Woman - very much a modern madrigal.

Maybe so, but it could have also been Bouree, another J.S. Bach inspired tune.

Glenn Hughes covered this song in 1996, it appears on the Glenn Hughes & Tony Iommi Boot Eighth Star and is named 'Shakin My Wings, although I believe it's Brian May Who plays guitar on that one. although I heard this song long ago, it was that what brought me here, interesting to hear the original version

There have long been rumors that this was one of the original Iommi compositions from the time he was in Tull.

It's a good song but I find Jethro Tull very dark, this song tells Me the writer had met their dreams end.

Btw its: Search in my case, ''cant'' find what they're looking for Waving me through - I believe its Ian telling how customs stopped him and searched his bag for drugs.

Same here - exactly the same actually ! The only thing that sucked is having to leave the music in the car (8 track/cassette) because WalkMans hadn't been invented yet. What woods ? North of Peekskill per chance ? There was a castle up there, north of 'Sleepy Hollow' that just made the 'atmosphere' on a rainy yet colorful fall day .....
